PRC Registration - A Mess

So what's new? My friend and former classmate Ivy and I trotted to the PRC on Feb. 26. Unfortunately, we got there at 1:30 pm and there were so many people that the line only moved less than 100 meters in 2 hours! We decided to leave and go back the following day instead.

We were there yesterday. It was so frustrating because the people in PRC were telling us what we should do or have done first when there were no instructions to be found anywhere in the first place. During my registration for my teaching license, there was a flow chart that we could follow. Now, when there's a multitude of new nurses trying to get a hold of their license as quickly as possible, you'd expect a mob right there. Well, there was a line alright but you don't what it was for. So, you just line up and find out at the end what it is or ask everybody else what it is for. That's just how it is at the Professional Regulation Commission. Some professional!

Antiemetics and Psych Drugs memory Help

I've been looking for ways of retaining the most boring subject in the Nursing field - Pharmacology. It's so boring that I never thought I'd be able to memorize the meds. Thanks to Budek of Pinoy Bsn, it has been easier to memorize the names of these strange and alien sounding names with their classifications. Here it is in part because I've done some very minor editing to it to make it shorter and would like to share it with you. Here goes:


Antipsychotic drugs:

Si Nora, Ela at Ana

Sina Nora (norpramine), Ela (Elavil) at Ana (Anafranil) pumunta sa Avenida (Aventyl) para magwelga. Mga TOFnotchers (Tofranil) sila sa school at mga Ascendera (Ascendin) ang families nila.

Imprison (Imprin) them! Sunugin Sina Kuan (Sinequan)! Viva (vivactly) Nursing Students! Sigaw nila. Dumating Si Lex (Celexa) ang Faverite (Faverine) teacher nila.

“Mga Pro(Prozac) retake kami. Di namin Luv (Luvox) ang mga Paxil (Paxil). Mag Zolo (Zoloft) na tayo at don tayo sa Panama (Parnate, Nardil, Marplan) mag nurse.”

Si Marinol at Phener


Inap (Inaprine) na ang paghihintay! Say ni Marinol sa maal (Maalox) niya si Phener na Tagamet-ro (tagamet) manila pa. Zofra (Zofran) ka na sabay compaz (compazine) ng kamay para manmpal.
“Naubos ko na ang pepsi (pepcid) ko, ni regal (raglan) na ako ng kaaantay sayo. Ayoko na ano? Kay ben na (benadryl) lang ako.


**** all the drugs are for nausea and vomiting. Tagamet and Pepcid are also antacids used for heartburn. Maalox is also an antacid but has many other uses. Benadryl prevents nausea and vomiting and dizziness specially for patients with endolymphatic Hydrops (Meniere’s disease).
